Questions & Answers

1. Do you support joint committees to reconcile differences between bills on the same issue passed by both houses of the legislature?

Committee reconciliation is a good idea except if you're taking rights from defenseless powerless people. Compromise reconciles differences; however, there are principles where deal making is not appropriate. Citizens in Clarkstown and Haverstraw need protection. The older ones should not be driven south by taxes and utility costs. They need shelter -- NO compromise. The unborn deserve our protection and shelter. No compromising the rights of the young or the old to LIFE.

2. What methods would you support to ensure equity in funding public education?

Needs of children in lower income areas are the same as children in wealthier neighborhoods. Poorer children have less access to resources. Parents have less time and money for their children. There is no substitute for what a child can get from home, yet we must try to supplement their education by putting more computers in the libraries, tutoring, workers helping with lessons and homework, and transportation to constructive activities.

3. If Indian Point nuclear power facility licenses are not renewed, how do you propose to ensure adequate electric power for the region?

We have a crisis that needs addressing right now -- we don't have to wait until Indian Point blows up to have one. My school taxes went up 425% because power companies figured out how North Rocklanders could pay what was the company's share. Let's re-open the book on power plant deregulation, and offer incentives for conservation/alternative energy. Companies don't make power, yet they make people leave their homes. This is wrong. People need protection.
