Smart Voter Full Biography for Elizabeth Garry

Candidate for
Justice; New York Supreme Court; District 6

This information is provided by the candidate

  • Hon. Elizabeth Garry was raised on a family dairy farm in Albany county. She moved to central New York following her graduation from Albany Law School to take her first legal position in the State judiciary, serving as the Law Clerk to a State Supreme Court Justice. After four years she set out from this position to develop her practical legal skills as a lawyer trying cases primarily in the State Supreme Court, representing hundreds of clients throughout the entire region. This foundation of experience was built for the purpose of returning to serve as the Justice, carrying forward the "tradition of excellence" she had observed first hand while working with Justice Irad S. Ingraham.
  • With the recent retirement of a Justice in the district, people familiar with Judge Garry's background and service in this court asked her to step forward to fill the vacancy. She is currently serving as the Town Justice of New Berlin, a position she has held for five years, and she is in her second term as President of the Chenango County Magistrate's Association.
  • To meet Judge Garry is to know her passion for principles and the law. Her committment and dedication to community is also well revealed by her background of service in several organizations. For more information, please check her website, http://www.garryforjustice.com
