Why I am running for Mayor of Oxnard!

By Phillip S. Molina, MBA

Candidate for City Mayor; City of Oxnard

This information is provided by the candidate
The City's priorties are not those of the public and need to be changed.
You should vote for Phil Molina if you want a Mayor who will vote the way the majority of the citizens of Oxnard want and not just support the developers.

As you know, an election for Mayor of Oxnard will be held in a few short months. I'd like to share important information with you that will help you make a decision for whom to vote.

The current Mayor has been on the City Council for eight (8) years, first as a councilman and then as mayor. Listed below, you will find just a sampling of what he supported and voted for and what it's costing us all as Oxnard taxpayers. After reading the list, one of the many questions to ask is if this is the manner in which you want your tax dollars spent.

1. In our name and with our tax dollars, the City has made commitments to pay $1,600,000.00 each year for 25 years for the theatre in Oxnard if it does not show a profit.

2. In our name and with our tax dollars, the City pays $2,000,000.00 per year for the "old" golf course and hotel parking lot. The Mayor continually claimed that the golf course was "making money". While he was a Council member, he addressed the INCF, the neighborhood committee, stating that the golf course was profitable. Now, after the Federal Courts has identified the truth, the Mayor sent a letter to the Ventura Star confessing that indeed the golf course had cost taxpayers "over a million dollars each year". He conveniently forgot that the City was also paying the mortgage on the parking lot improvements for the hotel next to the golf course, which cost an additional $800,000.00 each year.

3. In our name and with our tax dollars, the City has already paid almost $1,000,000.00 for the Big League Dreams (BLD) report. You will recall that the City Manager signed this "personal service contract" before the public was even aware it existed. The contract provided that BLD would provide the City with a special report to analyze and show how BLD could bring in money to the City by providing "stadium look alike" backgrounds to the baseball experience. What the City got for its $1,000,000.00 was a copy of a 10 page public relations documents issued by the CEO of BIG LEAGUE DREAMS! What should be noted as well is that the target neighborhood is overwhelmingly against this project.

4. In our name and with our tax dollars, the City has made future commitments to build a new golf course for $9,500,000.00.

5. In our name and with our tax dollars, the City has paid back the automobile dealers in Oxnard for the amount of the taxes they pay to the state for the sale of automobiles. They do this by using our tax dollars to pay for the tax assessments on the property owned by the auto dealers.

Thus:

25 years at $1,600,000 on theatre......=$40,000,000.00

10 years the "old" golf course.........=$20,000,000.00

Cost hotel parking lot each payment....=$ 800,000.00

New Golf Course........................=$ 9,500,000.00

Big League Dreams thus far.............=$ 1,000,000.00

TOTAL TO DATE WITH MORE TO BE ADDED.....=$71,300,000.00

+ Unknown amount for auto dealers........=??????????????

Think of what could be done with this money to take care of roads, build parks for our citizens to enjoy, provide for the kind of living experience we all expected when we moved to Oxnard, better police service, quicker fire department response time to emergency situations, and a more complete recreation coverage for children when they are not in school.

If you are pleased with what done, then by all means, vote for the incumbent. If you believe, as most do, that what he's voted for has done harm to the city and its citizens, then you should vote for Phil Molina, who is running for the office of Mayor and who is honest, dependable, trustworthy, well informed, immensely qualified and prepared, and cares for the city and its citizens. His credentials are as follows:

BA in Government MBA in Business Administration Member of California Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Society

CPA (IL #065-029755)

Twenty (20) years experience as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the cities of Paso Robles, CA, Hollister, CA, Oxnard CA, and CFO and Treasurer in the city of Dublin, CA
