Growth & Development

By Ted Howze

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Turlock

This information is provided by the candidate
California continues to see more population growth each year. The population in Stanislaus County is expected to double over the next 20 years. Growth will and must occur or our children will not have access to a home of their own. As a current Planning Commissioner, I am committed to intelligent land use planning.
As your City Council member, I will promote planned growth which preserves precious farmland while allowing us to build world class communities. The best way to do this is by building on less productive soils, promoting infill development and redeveloping older parts of Turlock. We must also look for creative ways to encourage building more affordable housing.
I am a firm believer that new growth must pay it own way. It's not unreasonable to ask new development to pay for schools, street improvements and cover public safety. It makes no sense to allow our cities to grow twice as large in the coming years, but become only half as nice.
