Why I am Running for the US Congress in 2006

Before 2004, I had never been involved in politics other than following current events and being a conscientious voter. However, I became increasingly concerned about the direction our country was taking. Record federal budget deficits, decline of US industry, rolling back historical and effective environmental protections, mixing religion and politics, and most disturbing, using the terrible attacks of 9/11 to justify unrelated military adventures and to weaken our civil liberties..

The turning point came in February, 2004, two weeks before the primary election. My son, an Air Force officer, called me in astonishment when he learned that the Democratic Party had not even fielded a candidate to run.. I decided that if no one else would stand up and fight the madness, I would. Regardless of what political insiders thought my chances would be.

Our grass roots support became even more passionate after the 2004 election. We began planning and organizing for 2005, reaching the point where we now have an organization in place capable of reaching the tens of thousands of voters needed to win the next primary and general elections.

Since 2004, we have had time to think about where we want the country to move. As a renewable energy expert, I have a unique and important perspective to bring to Congress. I am determined to help prepare this nation for the immense challenges ahead. These include preparing for the end of cheap oil, addressing a soaring deficit and foreign debt, ensuring top-notch education for our children to compete in the global economy, and providing affordable health care for every American. I will use my expertise in energy to help steer us to a sustainable energy policy and work hard to gain proficiency on a wide range of issues Congress must address.

In summary, my reasons for running are:

(1) To remove an ineffective, inept, irresponsible, and corrupt representative.

(2) To put forward an agenda and policies that truly serve the nation and the people of Congressional District 11.

(3) To make the House of Representatives responsible to the people again.

It's time to get our country back on track.
