Increase voter participation

By Gail K. Lightfoot

As Secretary of State, I would increase eligible voter participation through:

Providing easy to read and understand election pamphlets and candidate guidelines.

Including a photo and statement from all candidates --providing everything voters need to select the candidates they think will do the best job by carefully reading just the election material provided.

This would set voters free from dependence on media coverage (favoring incumbents and major party candidates) and expensive advertising (beyond the reach of the average person concerned about their country).

I support perfecting electronic and Internet voting including public voting locations and a paper ballot for verified counts and recounts, Election Day voter registration and permanent absentee voting status, None of the Above option in all elections and Instant Runoff voting in partisan elections as well as a move towards Proportional Representation of poltical parties [ie political philosophies].

I believe all of the above will generate new interest and increased participation in elections because of the potential for average people and people with different poltical viewpoints to be elected to office once all candidates have equal visibility before the voters.
