By James Fang

Candidate for Director; San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District; District 8

This information is provided by the candidate
On-time trains, well-kept facilities, rider safety and passenger convenience have been top priorities for James. His efforts to increase BART's overall efficiency have made the system one of the most vital transportation links for San Francisco to the entire Bay Area, and have resulted in unprecedented high-marks for BART.

One of the Country's Top-Rated Transit Systems

  • During James' second term as President of the BART Board, BART was voted the "Number One Transit System in America" by the American Public Transit Association.
  • BART continues to be one of the highest-rated transit systems in the country.

Highest on-time record in the Bay Area
  • BART currently boasts a 94% passenger on-time record, the highest of any Bay Area transit system.
  • BART is also one of the most consistently on-time transit systems in the nation.

Increased Ridership
  • More than 326,000 people ride BART each weekday.
  • Nearly 93,000,000 people rode BART last year.
  • BART ridership has increased more than 31% since James was elected to the BART Board.
  • BART's annual revenue has more than doubled.

Outstanding Achievements in Customer Satisfaction
  • Five years after James was elected, BART initiated a $.1.2 billion overhaul of trains and stations to make the BART-going experience safer, easier, faster and more enjoyable for passengers. The project was completed in 2005.
  • BART has since received the highest customer satisfaction rating in the organization's 34-year history. 93% of passengers said they would recommend BART to a friend.

One Ticket, Less Hassle
James is pushing to implement a time- and money-saving universal fare system that will allow BART riders access to all twenty-seven Bay Area transit agencies with a single ticket.

Wired for the Future

In 2005, BART became the first transit system in the nation to offer the convenience of wireless communication to passengers on underground trains.
