Funding

By James M. Calloway, Ed.D

Candidate for Board Member; San Francisco Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
We must work together to provide more funding for our schools.
Funding for the San Francisco City Schools must always be a "work in progress", never ending. Federal, state, local governments must be lobbied to adequately fund our schools. As a school board member, I will analyze, monitor and evaluate all educational programs and their fiscal/financial ramifications. I would insist that the superintendent hire competent individuals whose expertise is in the areas of school budgets and financial analysis.

The superintendent, I and other board members must have a continuous checks and balances to insure that all funds are properly used and spent in the categories designated by governmental agencies, citizens and school board members.

All cuts that are made should be as far away from the classroom as humanly possible. Total cuts in art, music, P.E., sports, library services/librarians and counseling should never be made.
