Who is Maxx Stalheim, and why is he running for Imperial Beach City Council?

Maxx Stalheim is a concerned Imperial Beach homeowner, and is bothered by the prospect of future development destroying the beach-enclave charm of his adopted hometown.

"Volunteering to serve on the Tidelands Advisory Committee was an easy decision", Stalheim, 48, a Senior Planner for the City of San Diego, said about responding to an ad seeking individuals for appointment to the group. He is looking forward to reviewing the Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Sea Coast Hotel project, which he sees as an opportunity for the City to increase revenue generated by sales tax and transient occupancy tax.

"The (Sea Coast) project must fit the community, which means respecting our neighborhood plan, and protecting our natural resources," Stalheim replied when asked about his priorities for evaluating the proposal.

Stalheim's response was not as quick when asked why he was seeking a seat on the Imperial Beach City Council. After a moment of thoughtful silence, he responded, "There are so many reasons "why", and the honest truth is simply I love Imperial Beach, and I know I possess the knowledge and skills our City needs to meet our current and long-term challenges."

A review of his credentials stretches across twenty years as a public servant and community planner. Stalheim's professional career contains great depth and achievement, and provides a long history of volunteerism.

While serving the people of San Diego, Stalheim wrote economic revitalization plans for unincorporated communities, laid the groundwork for a comprehensive update of the Otay Mesa Community Plan, and provided expert advice to residents and officials regarding in-fill development in Uptown, North Park, and Kensington-Talmadge. In his spare time over the course of his career, he served on the County's HIV Health Services Planning Committee, chaired the Greater North Park Community Planning Committee, and was elected to preside as President of the Azalea Park Neighborhood Association.

Through it all, Stalheim maintains the greatest benefit of serving is the "joy of helping others, and of seeing dreams come true."

Stalheim admits being an optimist.

"Our best days are ahead of us. Together, we will keep Imperial Beach moving forward."

Stalheim's highest priorities are ensuring public safety, securing fiscal stability, improving quality of life, and encouraging public participation. His guiding values are minimizing public risk, erasing budgetary shortfalls, protecting the environment, promoting local jobs and businesses, and providing the greatest level of public services.

The challenges facing Imperial Beach are great enough to test the abilities of any candidate. Maxx Stalheim has the experience and vision required to serve the greater good of Imperial Beach, and is clearly the best choice on November 7th. He is merely thankful for the opportunity to serve "our extraordinary community".
