Patricia McCoy has lived in Imperial Beach since 1971. She attended the University of Southampton, College of Education in the U.K. and subsequently taught during the next twenty years in England, Colombia, S.A., Costa Rica, Florida. Georgia and California. Patricia and her husband, veterinarian Dr. Mike McCoy were owners and operators of the Imperial Beach Pet Hospital on the corner of 12th and Cypress, where Dr. McCoy continues to practice. The Imperial Beach Pet Hospital overlooks the National Wildlife Refuge South San Diego Bay on the City's North side.

Patricia is a staunch supporter of community revitalization efforts and code enforcement programs. These programs, she believes, will improve conditions and eliminate visual blight without destroying the small town image of this classic California beach town.

Councilmember McCoy's intense interest has always been in the natural environment, particularly that surrounding the City of Imperial Beach. It makes the City unique and beautiful as no other in the region. She is proud to be an advocate for Imperial Beach when representing the City at numerous meetings, conferences and events which are an integral part of life as a member of the city council.

Patricia looks forward to the opportunity of moving the City of Imperial Beach ahead, making a contribution to solving the sewage problem and helping guide municipal government into the next century with greater assurances of solvency for the future.

None of these goals, she feels, will be achieved without community consensus and a spirit of co-operation. Working together is the key to even greater success.

Patricia was appointed by the Speaker of the California State Assembly, Robert M. Hertzberg as San Diego County's representative to the California Coastal Commission. She was one of twelve appointees from around the state. Four are chosen by the Governor, four by the Speaker of the Assembly and four by the President pro tempore of the Senate. Her appointment was for two years, and concluded during 2002.  Patricia currently serves as the City's primary representative to the San Diego Association of Government's (SANDAG) Board.  In this capacity, she was appointed to Chair of the Borders Committee and serves as a member of the Regional Planning Committee.
