I want to Fix The Traffic Control Lights

By John A. Martes

Candidate for Council Member; City of El Cajon

This information is provided by the candidate
Gasoline prices are through the roof and I am fed up with it and politicians without any answers!

As a resident and family man of El Cajon for over thirty years, I want to help our citizens keep more money in their pockets. One thing we can do is fix our traffic lights.

Gasoline is approaching $4.00 per gallon. Our gasoline mileage in the city is very low, why? Because you stop at every traffic light! Have you noticed that when you stop at a red light, all the lights down the road are green; but by the time you get to the next light it turns red?

It takes six times as much gasoline to get your car moving from a dead stop as it does to moving at a speed of 2 miles per hour. It not only costs you gasoline, but it also causes wear to your car. Simply by taking the time and using the technology that we already have, we can time our traffic lights so that we don't have to empty our pockets at the gasoline station.

  • Why is it that the right turn lane goes first before the thru traffic? The right turn lane is an exception and should go after the thru traffic.

  • Why does the intersecting traffic (one or two cars) stop the thru traffic (twenty or thirty cars)? This is another example of our on demand system working against the majority thru traffic.

  • We can achieve better operating costs, reduce air pollution and green house gases by fixing the traffic control lights.

  • With YOUR automobile operating costs rising daily, now is the time for change. We can't continue with the same inefficient methods of traffic control.

  • We need to get this issue on the agenda and in the budget as a priority

I hope that you will stand with me on this issue and support me for city council.
