Sharon has been a San Marcos Unified School District Governing Board Member since 1998. The district's accomplishments during her tenure have included:

  • Increased scores on the Academic Performance Index for each significant subgroup within the district
  • Increased staff development, which is crucial to student success
  • On-time completion of four new schools (two elementary, one middle, and one high school)
  • Completion of the North County Regional Education Center
  • Transition of K-8 schools from multi-track to single track
  • Transition of all district schools (K-12) to a single calendar
  • Continued fiscal solvency with one of the safest reserves in the county

Sharon has lived in San Marcos since 1971 and is a graduate of San Marcos High School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from San Diego State University and has worked in various related positions in private business. She recently obtained a Real Estate License and works for Keller Williams Realty North County.

Sharon has been married for 28 years to Dan Jenkins, a resident of San Marcos since 1964. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Heather, students in San Marcos Unified schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Jennifer, a San Marcos High School graduate, currently attends San Diego State University. Heather, a senior at Mission Hills High School, is looking forward to entering a four year university upon graduation.

Sharon has been involved as a parent volunteer at Woodland Park, Discovery, and Richland Elementary Schools, Woodland Park Middle School, San Marcos and Mission Hills High Schools, and the San Marcos Education Foundation. In addition, she served as a coordinator of the successful 1996 $21.8 million school facilities bond campaign. Currently, she is a Board Member of the Valley of Discovery Education Foundation and the City of San Marcos Community Foundation.

Sharon's community and educational involvement has included the following:

  • San Marcos AYSO-Team Parent
  • San Marcos Girls' Softball-Team Parent
  • Girl Scouts-Leader, Co-leader, or Cookie Parent for over 12 years
  • Woodland Park Elementary School Home & School Club (parent group)- Treasurer, Vice President of Fundraising, or President for a total of five years. Weekly classroom parent volunteer for six years
  • San Marcos Unified School District Parent Advisory Council for two years
  • San Marcos Unified School District Co-Chair for the 1996 school bond compaign
  • San Marcos Unified School District High School Configuration Committee
  • San Marcos Education Foundation Board Member for one year
  • Discovery Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization-founding Board Member/Treasurer and weekly Classroom Parent Volunteer for one year
  • Richland Elementary School Site Council for one year and weekly Parent Volunteer for two years
  • Discovery Elementary School VIP Reading Tutor-weekly for two years
  • Woodland Park Middle School Parent Club-two years
  • Woodland Park Middle School Music Booster Club-founding Board Member for one year
  • San Marcos High School Grad Nite Committee Volunteer for four+ years, Parent Volunteer for four years, and Band Booster Volunteer for two years
  • Mission Hills High School-Parent Volunteer for three years, Grad Nite Co-Chair for one year.
  • San Marcos Unified School District Nutrition Committee
  • San Marcos Unified School District Board Representative for the North County Consortium for Special Education for three years
