First elected to the Lemon Grove School Board in 1998, George Gastil has helped this district maintain a balanced budget emphasizing classroom instruction. We have developed more effective methods to reach students who need extra help in reading, writing and mathematics. We have expanded our high quality preschool programs using special state and local funds. Gastil has been there for every challenge in the past eight years. His experience on the board will be especially valuable to the district as we face new challenges.

Gastil also brings the perspective of a teacher and parent. For the past seven years he has taught at Grossmont College and other community colleges. Previously, Gastil was a high school and middle school teacher.

Gastil lives in Lemon Grove with his wife, Janet, and their three sons. Many people know Janet because she is the children and youth services librarian at the Lemon Grove library. Their youngest son will graduate from Lemon Grove Middle School in 2007. The two older sons are now in college.
