The board is a homogenous group that only represents a fraction of the community's population
- None of the current board members are Republicans, despite serving a community comprised of 58.2% registered Republican voters. The board's spending choices and deficit spending both indicate a more liberal ideology than the fiscally conservative community it represents.
- None of the board members are employeed. (Exception- Ms. Groth works for her husband's medical practice). A large percentage of our community has two working spouses or are single parents.
- All of the board members' area of educational expertise is derived from being board members. My expertise is derived from extensive experience in the classroom as both a teacher and an education professor/ trainer of teachers. Furthermore, my extensive academic study in the educational field provides me solution oriented insights that the other candidates have not considered.
Diversity on the school board is important, because the different board members can share the perspectives and understanding of the various demomgraphics of a pluralistic community. The board votes 5-0 on every vote it casts. Diversity is needed to ensure that all groups are heard. New ideas and a different perspective is needed for this board to grow and best serve our community and students. I compliment the board's weaknesses well. The current board offers the same expertise and strengths. Elect a well-rounded board- use only one vote (Cochrane) to improve the board's functioning.
