ABOUT ROWLAND BAKER

Rowland Baker has been in education in Santa Cruz County for over 30 years. He has served as a teacher, mentor teacher, principal, Director of Technology, and currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, working as part Diane Siri's cabinet. He oversees many programs that assist schools and trains teachers and administrators in our county. He has also directed several statewide projects, one of which has received national recognition from the United States Department of Education.

Mr. Baker has written and received numerous grants for local, regional and statewide initiatives. He has worked closely over the years with a number of colleges, universities and educational organizations including Cabrillo College, UCSC, CSUMB, CSUSJ the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the California School Leadership Academy (CSLA), the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), and the California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP). He has presented hundreds of workshops on a regional, state, and international level. He was also selected as part of a five state consortium to present leadership programs to congressional staff.

Mr. Baker serves on several state committees, and has served as an advisor for state, national and international leadership organizations. He was one of forty educators selected nationwide to write standards for school administrators. He was one of four educators selected in California to serve an internship at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC).

Mr. Baker has received numerous awards including Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, the Distinguished Service Award from Phi Delta Kappa, and the annual Montague Award for Outstanding Achievement from the Association of California School Administrators.
