Our public schools are the foundation of our democratic society and economic success. In order to meet the challenges of an increasingly globalized world and the accelerating rate of technological change, we must improve our district's ability to produce students that are ready to participate in this economy and society.

At a more local level, Morgan Hill's kids, sitting on the edge of Silicon Valley, deserve schools that have the vision to be innovative, challenging, and exciting places to learn. This leadership can come from no one place. The School Board alone can't provide it. The district's Administration in isolation can't do it. Teachers - who we already ask too much of, often for too little pay - can't do it. Parents, faced with raising their children, and work, and everything else are already too busy. But together we can improve our schools, and the School Board can play a vital role in coordinating the communication, setting expectations, and aligning all of these elements for success.

I will take that role - of communicator, of coordinator, of championing high expectations for everyone, not just our students - very seriously.
