Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Salvador Gascon

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Santa Maria

This information is provided by the candidate

Personal Philosophy:

I have lived in Santa Maria for the past fifteen years and I strongly believe that our city government needs new progressive ideas and new faces: individuals with a "Sense of Social Conscience". I believe I can make a difference! I will represent the "voiceless people" of Santa Maria who have been left out of the political process. I also believe that it comes a time in the "course of human endeavor" when one has to challenge the actions of those who govern us! Now is the time to challenge the "status quo" and the "business-as-usual" attitude. Now is the time to challenge the thinking of the members of the "good-old-boys club" that for years has ruled Santa Maria politics. Now is the time to challenge the authority of our elected officials and those in charged of our city government, from the Police Department to the City Manager's Office? Now is the time for all candidates to debate: the War in Iraq; Comprehensive Immigration Reform; the undocumented worker; affordable housing; jobs; a Decent Living Wage; the Environment; Health; Education; Transportation; the Homeless; Public Safety; etc. Now is the time to speak up and "rock the boat"! Therefore, I believe I am the right candidate who can challenge the present incumbents. I am a "grass-roots-oriented" individual with a "social conscience"! I am 67 years old and a "Viet Nam Era Veteran". I am a family man, married, and have five grown-up sons and daughters.
