A trusted member of the board of Education since 1981, Jeanette Amavisca continues to serve as an active member of the school community. Her "hands on" practice of assisting the school district in maintaining high standards as it grows as a leading school district in the 21st century, remains a top priority. Assisting the District Attorney with aggressive enforcement of school attendance, by participating with "Knock and Talks" (truancy sweeps) is only one of the many ways Jeanette serves the community.

"Quality education for ALL is my goal. We should leave no child behind in our endeavor to prepare each and every student for the future. Our success as a school district rests with our graduates' reaching THEIR goals. When our students meet their goals -- then we all do."

Jeanette's leadership with EGUSD continues to impress the community at large through a variety of contributions throughout the years. Serving on the Board for Project R.I.D.E. (Riding Instruction Designed for Education), chairing the entertainment and publicity committees for the Western Festival and the United Way Campaign, actively participating on the Women's Advisory Committee and founding the Charitable Activities Council, Inc. -- are just a few of the many community service roles Jeanette has held. For more than 15 years, she has represented EGUSD on a statewide basis as a member of the Delegate Assembly for the California School Boards Association. Jeanette stands for integrity, honesty, involvement, safety, conviction, and high academic achievement for ALL students.

As a trusted member of the Elk Grove Unified School District, she not only advocates for the highest standards, she demonstrates her beliefs. She shows up and in every way, participates in academic activities in the classrooms and elsewhere throughout the community.

As a board member, Jeanette has never lost sight of the need to plan for the district's rapidly growing student population. Her determination to keep technology at the forefront of student education represents her intense dedication to student success. "Let's do what's right for children." Jeanette spends countless hours at EGUSD sites. Her work ethic is above reproach. An advocate of technical education and alternative education, Jeanette has served on the advisory committee for William Daylor High School Teen Age Parenting Program. Her voice is also heard as a member of the California School Boards Association's Delegate Assembly. Jeanette promotes support for special education and special needs students by advocating for appropriate and effective interventions at every turn.

Jeanette, currently a community liaison, is a native of Sacramento. A former Senior Tax Auditor for the State Board of Equalization, and her 23 years working for the State of California enhanced her understanding and needs of the public school system. Jeanette holds a degree in public accounting. Her contributions to the EGUSD Facilities and the Architect sub-committee is tireless. She has helped with the passage of two successful "Measure A" campaigns. Local School bonds which provided $70 and $205 million dollars in facilities improvement for the school district. "I expect the best for the best, our students deserve it." Teamwork is the cornerstone of Jeanette's approach to education, as she frequently tells all, "Together we will make a difference."

Jeanette resides in Elk Grove. Her daughter and granddaughter are both graduates of EGUSD. Her great-grandson recently started pre-school. "So you see, I have a ways to go. I'm not finished yet." She also oversees two godchildren in middle and high schools in Elk Grove.

A long time member of the school board, Jeanette Amavisca continues to actively volunteer in the Elk Grove community as she pursues fulfilling her "vision for the 21st Century."
