Jim Warlin has been a resident of Cathedral City for the past 19 years and has owned J. Warlin Insurance Services there since 1997. For 33 years, Jim broadcast on radio stations from Norfolk, Virginia, to Los Angeles. It was that profession that brought Jim to the desert where he was heard on KWXY (1987-to-1992) and KEZN-FM (EZ-103) (1993-2000). He's the recipient of numerous broadcast awards, including an Associated Press Award (1975-76) for outstanding public affairs coverage of Los Angeles' downtown redevelopment.

Jim is a U.S. Navy Vietnam war veteran, having served with Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE at Danang and Qua Viet, Vietnam. Following his tour of duty in Vietnam, Jim was awarded special training at the Department of Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana, where he received diplomas in print and broadcast journalism.

Honorably discharged in 1970, Jim attended East Los Angeles Community College (Associate of Arts degree in journalism) and won a Bank of America scholarship helping him earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science (State and Local Government), at U.C.L.A.

Married to the former Karla J. Joppe, a teacher at Sunnysands Elementary for 18 years, Jim is the father of 2 sons, Sean and Nathan Warlin and stepfather of Kathryn Wells. Jim is a Planning Commissioner for Cathedral City and attends city council meetings on opposite Wednesdays, keeping informed on matters affecting his community. Jim is also an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church, where he helps as a lector, a choir member and an organizer of social events.
