My interests are not unlike those of most +

I strongly support Public Safety + police, fire, animal services, code enforcement, crossing guards + and believe that our City can and should work toward contractual independence in providing police and fire services. I have read past feasibility studies and understand the initial $20 million plus concerns, but an incremental plan should be developed and documented that would lead the City to a level of independence in 5 years + 10 years. It is a monumental effort and will require extensive involvement and coordination. An initial step towards independence and self-control, would be the hiring of a City Police Chief who's first loyalty is to the City, who would provide continuity throughout the transition, who would oversee the contract, capital, costs, and deployment.

I want to be instrumental in the vision of a library system. The City should have library services to meet the needs of a diverse and growing community, and in facilities that lend to enlightenment and enjoyment! Libraries are not just a home to Dr. Suess, classic novels, and best sellers, but a source of networking, research, daydreams, math and reading programs, and community interaction. It will take a community to provide this level of library services and will demand creative financing, and the engaging of the entire community: residents, businesses, developers, school district, and policymakers in awareness and fundraising efforts!

This level of community involvement and awareness can be center core, also, to the development of appropriate youth programs to provide our children and youth with meaningful activities and recreational opportunities.

I fully support the concept of a directly-elected Mayor which enhances that office's critical leadership role and provides greater continuity for the Council, the City organization, the citizens, the business community, and in our representation with other agencies. The classic argument of whether a leader is born or created can be a cornerstone in this change, in that one's natural leadership brings them to public office, but the opportunity to serve four or more years in the same role further develops necessary skills and abilities.

The City's Public Works/Corporate Yard is aged and over the years grown inadequate for current needs. I would help ensure that an appropriate facility in the "right" location is developed.

Redevelopment in areas of need is applauded and while District 2 is not within Redevelopment Area boundaries, I fully support improvements that benefit the City overall. The conversion of the one-time convenience store to a satellite office for Police is a commendable use of RDA funds!

Business retention and promotion is of interest and concern + I endorse a "Shop Moreno Valley" effort. We need to reinforce that, whenever possible, our residents' sales tax dollars should be spent within Moreno Valley! And due to recent additions to retail and restaurant opportunities, Moreno Valley residents can shop and dine in our City!
