"Water is life" and it is our most precious commodity

  • Water quality and Water reliability are highly important to all of us.
  • Water Boards must establish the policies which will assure the high quality and reliability of our water supply while keeping the cost low.

My Name is John Mylne; and those are my goals. They drive me to seek a position on the Western Municipal Water District Board of Directors. I believe in them and will actively pursue them as your representative on the Water Board.

I believe that I am uniquely qualified for this position as an Engineer/ businessman, retired, and as a Fourth generation "Water person" in Riverside.

  • Committed resident of Riverside for 60 years.
  • Extensive background and experience in both Engineering and Business
  • Dedicated husband of 42 years and a proud father of 3 children.
  • Water is a part of my family name dating back to my great grandfather.
  • Have been a student of Water in Southern California for many years.

Currently I serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and have previously served on Western Municipal's Board representing a different division.

Water agencies in our area were formed in the early 1950's as Member Agencies of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to bring water supplemental to that which was available from local sources from long distances away. It was first brought from the Colorado River and then from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. It is this Water from this Delta location via the 440 mile long California Aqueduct from which the Riverside area now gets it supplemental water. That is a long way for water to travel and it takes a lot of pre-planning and facility construction to get it here.

Western Municipal provides all of the supplemental wholesale water to the City of Riverside as well as the retail water to the newer areas such as Woodcrest.

Our Families, Businesses and Farms could not exist without water and I am committed to assuring that our water supply continues to be Safe, Clean, and Reliable and that the water rate is Affordable.

Conservation and Reclamation have been embraced by most of the residents of Southern California as a way of life. I support it and would tell you that these conservation elements have kept the water demand nearly constant in the face of a growing population for the past two decades. It is working and I am an advocate for this kind of conservation and have helped guide its implementation. Please keep it up.
