Local law enforcement on immigration enforcement.

By Mike Scheafer

Candidate for Council Member; City of Costa Mesa

Stop the effort by current Counci majority to train local law enforcement on ICE (immigration) procecedures.
I oppose the current council majority plan to train local law enforcement officers on immigration enforcement provisions. Immigration is a federal law enforcement process. The Costa Mesa Police Department is understaffed, has an interim chief and has no business enforcing this federal law. Until the borders are secure, this measure is less than a band aid. Over worked, under staffed officers will be taken out of crime enforcement in order to process someone who will be can be processed by the approriate agency.

The plan has no support by any police chief or department in Orange County.

Once deported there are no guarantees the felon won't be back in the US in a very short time.

The Federal Government has to be pressured to secure the borders before we can successfully help with the issue.

This plan has divided the local community between too many groups. It has brought outsiders, on both sides, into Costa Mesa that are not helping the situation.
