Why Should You Vote for Mark Nielsen?

Mark Nielsen has long stood for the preservation and enhancement of our City's historical, rural and equestrian character. He does not rely on any developer's business for his livelihood. He believes in property rights, but not when they are changed to the detriment of our community's character. Mark's only agenda is to preserve and enhance for his kids, and for your kids, the uniqueness and charm of what originally drew us to San Juan Capistrano.

Mark believes we should:

  • Not change the rules to benefit special interests unless it benefits the public more and enhances our town's character
  • Follow our General Plan, instead of always granting exceptions.
  • Require a vote of the citizens to rezone any open space
  • Make our downtown more pedestrian-friendly
  • Limit development to the minimum density allowed under the zoning unless a compelling public interest is shown to increase it
  • Require traffic improvements to be completed BEFORE a development is allowed to complete
  • Vote NO on Measure Y (189 condos on golf course driving range)
  • Encourage public debate and public involvement in the process BEFORE decisions are made, and LISTEN to the input

Mark Nielsen is an experienced, national, hi-tech CEO who has turned unsuccessful corporations into successful ones. He has done this by listening to the man and woman on the line, by listening and seeking solutions from those in the community, by listening and seeking solutions that create a healthy environment and jobs. As your City Council member, he will apply his executive leadership skills into making San Juan what it was meant to be--a rural and equestrian town that proudly proclaims its historical character. Mark Nielsen knows that we are all in this together. It is our community. He is one of us.
