We must support, maintain and improve important student based programs, such as Class Size Reduction and Elementary Music and Fine Arts.

By Kimberlee "Kim" Nichols

Candidate for Trustee; Orange Unified School District; Trustee Area 5

This information is provided by the candidate
There is well documented evidence and research that student based programs, such as Class Size Reduction and Elementary Music and Fine Arts, have a direct correlation with improving student learning and achievement and improving test scores.
Over the past 5 years, despite cutting over $32,000,000 from our operating budget, Orange Unified has maintained these valuable programs. We continue to offer Class Size Reduction in Kindergarten through third grade, as well as 9th Grade Class Size Reduction in English and Mathematics.

We also offer supplemental Music instruction to 5th and 6th grade students, both vocal and instrumental. In addition, we are currently in the process of developing a comprehensive Fine Arts program, to provide additional Fine Arts options for our Elementary Students. The options may include offerings such as Dance, Art, Theater Arts, and possibly others.

These are programs that are not fully funded through the State and require a financial commitment on the part of the local School District. I am proud to have been a part of that commitment for the past 5 years.
