Take whatever time is necessary to hire the best qualified person to lead Cypress.
There is no substitute for hiring the RIGHT person to provide the leadership of Cypress.

Characteristics that I look for:

  • LEADER rather than a Manager
  • Inspiring person
  • Trustworthy
  • Delegator, not a micro-manager
  • Public servant rather than a city employee
  • Readily accessible by the public and employees alike
  • Uncompromising toward the oath of office, the Brown Act, the Public Records Act, etc.
  • Every person treated with the highest professional courtesy
  • Member ICMA

An interim City Manager should be hired immediately to prevent any "rush to judgment" in hiring the best qualified person.
