Candidate for
Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I was born in Austria in 1954. My parents came to live in Anaheim in 1957 and I became a naturalized citizen of the United States when I was in the 10th grade at Anaheim High. Except for some time when I was in college and in the Army, Anaheim has been my home, and it always will be.

I attended Horace Mann and Patrick Henry Elementary schools. I then went to Fremont Jr. High and Anaheim High and was a member of the 1972 graduating class. I then obtained an Associate Arts degree from Fullerton Jr. College in Police Science.

I spent the next 3 years as a military police officer in the United States Army where I served at Camp Page, Korea and Ft. Meade, Maryland. Upon returning home I became a police officer for the city of Pomona and began working on my BA degree in Criminal Justice at CSUF. I was hired by Anaheim PD in 1970 and during my time there I was able to obtain my Master's Degree in Public Administration also a CSUF.

I have always been someone who was willing to try ideas that were not consistent with being "the way things are done around here". As the first community based police officer in Anaheim in the Jeffery-Lynne neighborhood, I saw first hand what "Bilingual" education was doing to students in our school districts. Seeing the damage being done to these students I ran for the AUHSD board and upon being elected, I began a concerted effort to rid the district of this horror. I continue to believe that the best way to teach a student who lives in our country is in English...period.

I intend to bring that same intensity to a "NO EXCUSES" mentality to the education in our district. If there is a problem, I will expect that we work to solve the problem rather than use it as an excuse for poor performance or failure. I also intend to make sure that grade inflation is done away with. I was embarrased to see that 12th grades students with a 3.5GPA were unable to pass the High School Exit Exam when it requires only 8th grade knowledge.

I have recently retired from my 30 year law enforcement career and I want to do more for my community.
