It is time for a change

By Jan M. (McKane) Horton

Candidate for Council Member; City of Yorba Linda

This information is provided by the candidate
Our current council have been poor stewards of the nature and character of Yorba Linda. They have been fiscally irresponsible entering into lawsuits against our school district and against the residents of Yorba Linda. it is time for a change!
I am running for City Council to protect the nature and character of Yorba Linda and to place the Citizens of Yorba Linda FIRST. We have seen the results of over-development with increased traffic congestion and increased crime. We are watching our historical homes, like the Janeway house, deteriorate before our eyes without intervention from our city to prevent this travesty. We have watched our council use eminent domain or its threat to take individuals property with plans to give it at a reduced cost to developers. This has to stop!
We have had a difficult year with our current council attempting to change the nature and character of Yorba Linda without seriously considering the citizens concerns. Their unresponsiveness and active disregard for their constituency during the rezoning and approval of the town center redevelopment has undermined the trust of the residents. They have been poor stewards of the character of our community.
Crime has been on the rise in this city and this current council, comprised of three current/ former police officers, was unaware of these trends. They have been reluctant to address these issues and publicize the problems we are having. This leaves us uninformed and vulnerable.
It is time for a leadership change! I am an advocate of listening to the people. Residents deserve to be listened and responded to respectfully and in a timely manner. Their opinions deserve to count in deciding the direction this city takes with development, safety and beautification projects. I am an advocate of establishing community goals and working towards achieving them. I feel the Blue Ribbon Committee can be the voice of the people with regards to the development of the town center and an avenue that can be employed with other big project areas that may or may not be contentious.
My years of management experience will be an asset to this council and my integrity will not allow myself to be influenced by individuals or entities that do not serve the Yorba Linda residents interests completely. My interests and involvement has ALWAYS been in the interest of the Yorba Linda residents. It is time for a change. It is time to place Yorba Linda Residents and their concerns FIRST.
I encourage you to vote for integrity and trust. Vote November 7, for JAN HORTON, Yorba Linda City Council Member.
