About the Candidate ... Vote for Kevin Hobby

It's often been said, "home is where the heart is". In the three and half years that my family has made Brea our home, my heart has grown more and more fond of this fabulous community. My wife, Angela, and I moved to Brea specifically for the outstanding reputation of the schools. As a proud father of three children, two attending Olinda, and one in preschool, I am passionate about the standard of education provided not only to my children, but also to all those who are served in our District.

As a Risk Management Consultant to school districts, I have over eight years of hands on experience and knowledge of the public school system, and often interface with school staff, business officers and superintendents. Sometimes I am asked the question, "what is school risk management?" In simple terms, it's all about assuring safe and compliant facilities and healthy environment for our students and staff, and being equipped to successfully maneuver in the face of disasters and threats to our schools. My background as a Fire Protection and Safety Engineer has allowed me to be instrumental in providing safe environments to students in various districts and assist with compliance to regulatory agencies. In 2004, I was able to assist Olinda School with writing a grant for the installation of a new ADA compliant kindergarten playground. During my tenure as an active member of the School Site Council at Olinda School, Olinda became the proud recipient of a California Distinguished School Award. Currently, I am a member of the District wide School Design Committee at Olinda, as well as a member of the PTO, of which my wife is a board member. Viewing education as a life long journey, I have served as a guest lecturer at Cal State Fullerton in the School Business Management Certificate Program.

As an elected Board Trustee, I will make it a priority to continue to support the high academic standards for students held in the BOUSD. With my two sons still in the primary years at Olinda, and my daughter anxiously waiting to join them, I am personally vested in the excellence of Brea's schools both today and for the future. Having a kindergartener with special needs who was fully included at BOUSD's innovative preschool and now at Olinda, I will bring fresh insight, hands on experience, and creative thinking as to how to continually encourage a progressive and inclusive learning community for all. I will also provide valuable insight in planning for the future growth of the City and the changing educational needs of the students in Brea. I will remain passionate about maintaining safety and providing a quality environment that is optimally conducive to the academic success of our children. Last, but surely not least, I will continue to encourage strong involvement and support of the excellent teachers and phenomenal parents in the BOUSD to bring the best academic experience to our children.
