Board Member; Laguna Beach Unified School District

I am a longtime community member, husband and father. For many years I have been actively involved in a variety of community agencies,and am now running for a seat on the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education. I feel that my extensive professional experience in leadership positions, together with my education and expertise in finance uniquely qualify me to hold a osition on the school board.

I firmly believe that each child should be given an equal opportunity to excel both academically and socially, and I support policies which both encourage and allow teachers to do what they do best +educate.

Laguna Beach is a passionate, educated and well informed community and I personally want to thank you for informing yourself of my background and candidacy.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I have been married for 20 years to Shelley Arends-Cornwell. Our two sons, Zac, 15 and Zane, 12, both attend Laguna Beach public schools. I attained the rank of Eagle Scout and am a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America. I have completed my studies in Business Finance from California State University, Fullerton, and have been a Regional Finance Manager + Partner at UPS for the past 26 years.

COMMUNITY RELATED ACTIVITIES: Laguna Beach CSP Youth Shelter + Advisory Board Member - providing a safe environment for troubled teens and providing family support

House Captain - Rebuilding Together + Founder/coordinator of the Laguna Woods accessibility project + providing free assistance and home modification to wheel chair and bed bound seniors

United Way UPS Regional Coordinator - providing over $50 million dollars to various community agencies including Blue Bird Canyon slide victims, CSP Youth Shelter, Friendship Shelter,The Red Cross and TLC at Blue Bird park

School Related Activities- cabling and wiring of the whole TOW School in order for K-TOWN News to be broadcast in the classrooms when the schools did not have the funds for wiring.Thurston 6th grade science camp volunteer 2002, 2005

Other Community Activities: include Special Olympics, Children's Bureau Orange County, SchoolPower and Relay for Life
