AN EXPERIENCED CIVIC LEADER THAT WILL PUT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS FIRST!

A 24-year resident of Costa Mesa and a business owner for 18 years Mirna works hard to make Costa Mesa a livable community. Known as a consensus builder, Mirna has the experience and a proven record in the community to effectively represent Costa Mesa residents on the City Council.

AS A BUSINESS OWNER. Mirna knows first hand that a thriving economy equals a prosperous community. Both she and her husband own businesses in Costa Mesa, having run a successful business for 18 years, Mirna understands first hand the needs of the Costa Mesa business community and is committed to creating opportunities for Costa Mesa businesses.

In 2005 Mirna was ranked #5 in the "Daily Pilots 103 Most Influential People" and has been ranked for the last five years. Her restaurant El Chinaco is located in West Costa Mesa and serves Mexican and Salvadorian foods. She is an active member of the Latino Business Council and the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce.

A RECORD OF LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION. Mirna is committed to strengthening our school-community partnerships to raise the academic achievement of our youth. As a mother of three, Mirna understands the challenges that our children and families face. She participates in a variety of committees to create and implement programs and events that benefit the community. As a member of the "Family Friendly Schools" program in the Newport Mesa School District she participates in school and family relations trainings with parents, principals, students, teachers, and staff members. She was an Executive Board Member of the Parents Teachers Student Association (PTSA), active in Measure A Citizens Oversight Committee; Past President of the English Learners Advisory Committee for 5 years and President of Madres Costa Mesa, a mentoring group for moms. Mirna has dedicated many hours of her time to mentoring other parents on how to advocate for their children's education.

AN ACTIVE COSTA MESA RESIDENT, that will put our neighborhoods first. As a former Costa Mesa Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Mirna fought against increasing fees for use of our playing fields for youth groups. As Chair of the Costa Mesa Human Relations Committee she led the effort to create "living room" dialogues to engage all Costa Mesa residents. Mirna has also been a member of the Citizen Redevelopment Advisory Committee (CRAC), Westside Redevelopment Oversight Committee (WROC), UCI Outreach Committee, Census 2000 Campaign Team, Latino Youth Conference Committee, and a member of the Keep Costa Mesa Beautiful Committee.

Her dedication earned her the UCI Community Outreach Partnership Center Award in 2005 for her support and contribution to its programs and students. Mirna is a 2001 graduate of "Leadership Tomorrow" a countywide leadership development intensive for Orange County leaders.

Mirna lives with her husband Sal who is the owner of Burciaga Auto Service located in Costa Mesa. They are homeowners in the Mesa Verde North Community. She has three children, Natalie, Sal Jr., and Stephanie who all attend Costa Mesa public schools.
