In November 2001, I was appointed to fill a one year vacancy on the City Council, being elected in November 2002 to a full four year term, serving as Mayor Pro Tem in 2003 and as Mayor in 2004. It would be an honor to continue serving the people of Brea for another four year term, and I am asking for your vote.

Caring about our children's future, I served as Chairman of the School Board for Covenant Christian School in Orange, where my wife Sharon and I attend Covenant Presbyterian Church. I also serve on the Orange County Library Advisory Board. Reading is a treasure that every child should have access to. My love of books began as a young child at the neighborhood library. My love of reading continued into adulthood, as well as the enrichment it provides.

As a retired Director of Engineering for a Fortune 500 Company I understand the importance of facts in decision making and that major decisions affect our people and our community.

As a veteran of the US Army, I believe that we have a responsibility as Americans to serve our country in any capacity for which we are called to serve. My son, John Jr is a Lt. Colonel, serving his second tour of duty in Iraq as an Army flight surgeon. My commitment to the City of Brea and its public safety has earned the endorsements of Brea's Police and Fire Fighters Associations in 2002 and again in 2006.

Families are important to me. My wife, Sharon and I have a blended family of six children and 18 grandchildren, two of which are being raised in Brea, with another one on the way. Because families matter, I helped bring to fruition a long-standing dream shared by most Brea families for a Sports Park, which is scheduled for completed in 2007. As a pet owner, I understand that pets have a special place in our lives and are a part of our family. I have worked to find a suitable site for a Dog Park that Breans and their K-9 family members can share and enjoy.

I am committed to preserving Brea's quality of life and the preservation of hillside open space while respecting property rights. Federal and State grants are available for that purpose. The U.S. Constitution balances the "General Welfare" of the community while protecting individual rights. I believe we can purchase open space in the interest of the general welfare and pay a fair price in the interest of the rights of individual property owners.
