Reduce Late Night Noise Pollution from the Airport

By Dan Presser

Candidate for Director; Monterey Peninsula Airport District

This information is provided by the candidate
Several Ideas on Reducing Noise Pollution
1. The Monterey Airport Tower closes from 9pm to 7am. Absolutely no one is in the tower. Passengers who arrive and depart from Monterey should be informed the tower is closed during those hours. Perhaps if enough people don't fly from 9pm to 7am airlines will elect to arrive and depart at times when there are people working the tower.

It is true that aircraft are easily controlled by electronic means from other locations. But assistance stops once the plane is on the ground. When an aircraft lands it is told to contact ground control. There is no one working ground control from 9pm to 7am. There is lots of fog in Monterey during those hours.

Less flights from 9pm to 7am equals less noise pollution.

2. Increased landing fees. Landing fees from 9pm -10pm and from 6am-7am should be 1 1/2 the regular landing fee. Landing fees from 10pm-6am should be double the regular landing fee.

3. No engine testing should be done from 10pm-7am.

4. Heavy equipment should not be used from 10pm-7am.
