Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Daniel Davis

Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Pacific Grove; Unexpired Short Term

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a strong believer in public service on behalf of ordinary residents. I feel that too often the people who seek political office do so to represent some special interests, and as a result, the interests of ordinary citizens are not adequately served. Moreover, the greatest threat to good government is public apathy amongst ordinary citizens.

I also believe that the two most important qualifications for public service are competency and integrity. Elected officals need to have a basic understanding of the City Charter, Municipal Code and the workings of city government in order to effectively serve the public. I also think it is important to know how to work effectively with a wide variety of people, including people who may not have the same political values and philosophy, but who may represent a valid constituency in the community.

Finally, I believe public service is an honorable and rewarding way to contribute to the community. It seems to me extremely important that we can trust our government to look after our interests, and that government conduct itself openly, transparently, and honorably.
