MCDH Patient Services and Healthcare

By John A. Kermen

Candidate for Board Member; Mendocino Coast Health Care District

This information is provided by the candidate
MCDH is a primary/secondary level of care hospital. We need to focus on the services that meet the needs of the community and provide those services at an optimum level. If a particular service is having financial difficulty, then creative solutions to the problem must be explored (e.g. the ambulance service membership program) in order to protect those crucial community services. Dependent on our ability to recruit physician specialists to the area, our residents and the hospital would benefit by having expanded orthopedic and cardiology services, and hopefully someday adding other specialties such as ENT, Urology, Dermatology, and Plastic Surgery.

I was part of the original formation of Mendocino Coast Ambulance Support, and I currently serve as advisor and fundraising committee chair for MCAS. I advocated administration personnel changes. I supported and represented the majority of the Medical Staff with the decision to convert to Critical Access Designation. I have attended countless meetings, studied the issues, and gathered as much input from the community, the hospital staff, and Medical Staff in order to arrive at decisions to be made. I work closely with hospital staff on a daily basis to provide care in the most effective and efficient way possible.
