Statement of General Philosophy
As a community college professor for the past 7 years, I passionately believe in the mission of our community colleges to provide an affordable opportunity for young people to gain access to higher education.

I know first hand the importance of providing our students with a wide variety of educational and career enhancement opportunities. However, just three years ago our students suffered as courses were cut and important vocational programs were eliminated because of the state budget crisis.

As your next representative on the Community College Board, I will work to prevent this crisis from happening again by ensuring proper financial reserves and a responsible budgeting process within the College.

Further, I will implement an independent audit to make sure that the college is using our tax dollars wisely.

I pledge to expand recent efforts by the College to improve its relationship with neighbors in the surrounding community by establishing an open and inclusive decision-making process on all development projects.

I have the experience and track record to bring common sense solutions to the Community College Board. I recently assisted in negotiating with the MTA to provide subsidized bus passes to Community College students in Los Angeles to encourage students to use public transportation. I will work to implement a similar program at Santa Monica College, thus helping to alleviate traffic congestion in our neighborhoods.

I look forward to putting my experience to work for you on the Board of Trustees. I would greatly appreciate your vote on November 7th.
