Christian Madsen for Water District Director...why?

By Christian Madsen

Candidate for Board of Directors; Foothill Municipal Water District; Division 4

This information is provided by the candidate
As a Director for the Foothill Metropolitan Water District (FMWD) I will dedicate myself to the district's mission:

"Foothill Municipal Water District will reliably deliver water to its member agencies in a cost-efficient manner to meet projected demands"

Though the mission may sound mundane, the water provided by the District is not. Effective management of water resources is vital to the health and well being of all La Canada residents.

Roughly 90% of La Canada's water comes from outside sources. As water demand in the state increases, the share available for La Canada is at risk. FMWD's water delivery system is aging, reserve storage is limited, system redundancy is lacking and groundwater problems have increased the reliance on outside sources. While water supplies can meet demand in normal years, an extended drought could severely reduce the water available to the city. These are just a few of the challenges facing the FMWD.

I am concerned about these issues but I am not alarmed. Through effective planning and management, the FMWD has supported a quality water supply for La Canada and other member communities since 1952. As a director for District 4 I will devote my initiative and experience to continuing this legacy.

Conservation efforts sponsored by the FMWD such as low-flush toilet rebates and "intelligent" sprinkler programs have been effective in reducing demand. As a FMWD director I will continue to support these programs. I will also take in to account the needs of the community in all decisions. I will apply the business skills and discipline developed during a 22-year career with AT&T towards ensuring that the FMWD remains efficient and financially stable.

You turn on the tap and clean water comes out. To most the process is invisible. I ask that you elect me to manage and maintain this invisible yet important process so that La Canada has a steady source of clean water.
