Issues facing CLWA that concern me

Rising water rates,poor fiscal management, polluters not being held responsible for clean-up, the current board supports growth to the detriment of public health and quality of life.

MY GOALS

1.Establish Watershed Council in order to be eligible to apply for grants.
2. Televise the CLWA Board meetings
3. Educate the public about water availability/quality issues so they can make informed decisions about water availablity and quality issues.
4. Increase public fiscal oversight
5. Make sure clean-up facilities are on line before new development is approved
6.Polluters should pay, not the public
7. We do not want a monopoly so that the Valley has only one water provider
8. Title 21 water reports which counts the extra water available in raining seasons should not be used to approve new development
9. Remove appointed water purveyors from the water board.
10. Current member are not representing the public's interests
11. Water transfers are permissible as long as they do not harm the area of origin and there is guaranteed aqueduct capacity
12.There should be public oversight over Devils Den. There should be no closed-door meetings of this wholly owned water district.
13. CLWA has a history of poor fiscal management as witness by a recent 18% overrun

POLLUTION PREVENTION STRATEGY

1.Polluters must pay for clean up. This should not be passed on to the taxpayer. If this is clear and is strongly enforced then potential polluters are more likely not to pollute.
2. We need regular monitoring for probable pollutants by the Health Department.
3. We need the open exchange of scientific data from other states and localities on potentially hazardous pollutants.
4. We should use available scientific data to reduce cost.
5. We need to continually educate about pollution issue.
