Carlos A. Chávez is a college and high school math teacher who made Alhambra his home 15 years ago. He lives in the First District, on a Magnolia lined street, in a restored 1912 Craftsman Bungalow with his wife, Meghan M. Chen, a community college administrator, and two children, Micaela and Marcelo. His oldest daughter, Marisela, is an assistant professor at CSU Dominguez Hills.

The oldest of five brothers, Carlos immigrated from Mexico in the mid-fifties. He attended public schools and enrolled at UCLA directly after high school on a full scholarship. Carlos finished his degree and teaching credential as a working adult at CSU Los Angeles.

Carlos has worked all his adult life serving people, and has been active in peace and justice issues. He coordinated community youth centers, served in an anti-poverty agency, administered college preparatory programs for high school students, and directed community relations and public relations for Occidental College, a nationally ranked liberal arts college located in Los Angeles.

Carlos has twenty-three years of leadership experience in administration, with skills in budgeting, grant writing, personnel management, project management, and community and public relations.
