By Richard W. Atwater

Candidate for Board of Directors; Foothill Municipal Water District; Division 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Autobiographical background information
I have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Foothill Municipal Water District (April 2006). I have also been on the Board of Directors of the Crescenta Valley Water District since 2003. Professionally I have over 30 years of experience in managing water utilities and solving complex water problems throughout California.

My goals are to expand our programs to encourage customers to conserve water and to implement new local groundwater storage projects to provide drought and emergency supply reserves. This will save our customers on their monthly water bill by minimizing the use of expensive imported water from northern California and the Colorado River.

I have been honored by three Governors for Environmental Achievements and have recieved national water leadership awards from the USEPA and the Secretary of the Interior. I was also a member of the California Water Commission from 2000 to 2003.

My wife and I have lived in La Canada since 1986. I have served on the La Canada Planning Commission (1990-1996) and the Roger Barkley Community Center non-profit Board of Directors (1999-2005).
