Student Safety

By Ken Mettler

Candidate for Board Member; Kern High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Our kids can not learn if their safety is not guaranteed on our school campuses.
  • Dress Code needs to be reviewed, strengthened, and enforced.
  • Truancy and "walkouts" are not to be tolerated. Cooperate with the District Attorney to enforce the law and to promote more interaction with the parents and students. I will work to ensure that parents take more responsibility for the acts of their children and the schools are not baby sitters.
  • DARE program should be reinstated. Nancy Reagan's vision for a drug abuse free America must be carried forward. I will work with our law enforcement agencies to find resources to continue this aspect of the war on drugs.
  • Help troubled youth with community based outreach programs
  • Punish bullies not those who defend themselves.
  • Parental Notification The parents are to make decisions regarding their children's health, not bureaucrats. No abortion without parental notification.
