My wife Melanie and I relocated from Sacramento to Humboldt County to be closer to our children. We had been visiting here extensively since the 70's when one daughter, Leslie Lollich, attended Humboldt State and later went to work as a television news anchor. We fell in love with the region and in particular Eureka with its wonderful older homes, beautiful bay, great recreation, and two nearby colleges. We have both taken advantage of the educational opportunities here to teach at College of the Redwoods and go to school at Humboldt State University. We have five other children and nine grandchildren.

Here in Eureka, we soon both became active in civic affairs. Melanie is very active in historic preservation and is a Historic Preservation Commissioner. I followed her lead and have served for nearly four years as a Planning Commissioner. For nearly two years I have been President of the Eureka Heritage Society. I attended College of the Redwoods (along with my wife and youngest son, Joshua) where we all obtained Certificates in Historic Preservation and Restoration Technology. These skills helped us in the restoration of the historic Zanone House.

My working career was mostly in information technology and management. I served for a time as the Chief Information Officer for the State of California. I taught college part time for 30 years, most recently at the College of the Redwoods. With a belief in life-long learning, I continue to take classes at Humboldt State University to enrich my life and to sharpen my skills for other endeavors. The skills learned are proving valuable in my work as President of the Whimsy Garden Association, and my work in government.

I have been very physically active all my life, and when I was younger I played ice hockey, bicycled, and mountain climbed. As I have gotten older I still like to backpack and climb mountains, but also have taken up kayaking in our great bay. My other hobbies are gardening, model railroading, photography, bird watching, and genealogy.
