As a person whose parents worked to provide for me, not to mention who has also worked through the years, I know what it is like to be on the employee side of the table. I am familiar with their concerns and needs. I was reared in the City of Madera, where I attended school and also Kings River's Madera Campus.I have for the past several years worked for the United States Navy, rising through the ranks due to my hard work, discipline, and dedication to the position of CWO. As such, I was responsible for the entire communications suite on a large platform, with a Marine Squadron and Staff onboard. I have learned to direct, lead, and be concerned with the needs of not only the mission, but also the personnel. I am experienced with having managed the people and resource entrusted to me. Prior to this I served with the State of California working with young people from all over the state. These two jobs taught me various invaluable lessons, and showed me that you always have to be concerned with the people that you are serving. Currently, I am the owner of a local small business in the Fresno Area. I provide instruction and consultation in the information systems and computer networking fields.
After coming to Fresno, it soon became noticeable that the educational system--at all levels--was extremely low. There are some very knowledgeable, talented, and dedicated educators in this area, though. We have to refocus ourselves on the mission of educating our people to find professions and careers, not just jobs. It also became noticeable that our economy was at a level that is unseen in most areas of the United States. We lack the amount of stable industry that supports the job market in most metropolitan areas. We can no longer ignore the manufacturing sector, while continuing to support agriculture and construction. Yet expect the unemployment rate to diminish to a level commensurate with that of the rest of the state and country. The areas that are supportive of their population have relied on manufacturing, research, and technology to a much greater extent than the Valley. We can continue to support agriculture in those areas where it will be beneficial and productive based on its soil composition and ranking on the USDA's Storey Index, while also devoting more land to industry and technology. These are some of the contributing factors to my decision in running for the Board.
