My thoughts on education

By Joyce A. Seelinger

Candidate for Board Member; Antioch Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I'm honest, concientious, concerned and knowledgeable. I am passionate about our children, our schools and our future. I want to serve. To me, an excellent education is the most valuable thing we can give our children.
Antioch's schools must change, and continue to change, to meet the needs of our population. We must leave no stone unturned; and we must keep our minds open to altering our educational approach in whatever way necessary to produce a well-earned diploma for every one of our students. These next four years must focus on a strong administration to shape these changes, as well as more support to the teachers and staff that need to carry out these changes. I am dedicated to keeping my eye on the prize: the children of Antioch.

With the Antioch School District's budget successfully restored, I am committed to keeping Antioch School District financially strong so the focus is all on the children. We must continue efforts to improve student achievement, expand learning alternatives for all children, and, equally as important, keep our children safe.

I have the benefit of seeing the whole educational picture from a variety of different angles since I am a retired teacher and involved citizen with children and grandchildren who are products of Antioch Schools.
