Over the past nine years, I have enjoyed serving this community as a member of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Board of Education. During my last four-year term in office, my focus has been on Rigor, Reform, Responsibility and Results. And, I believe all children have benefited. Our success can be seen in many ways.

• Students are achieving as never before.
• More are prepared for college and careers.
• Graduation rates are on the rise.
• There is an increased number of students taking college prep and honors courses.
• Career classes are growing and more students are taking advantage of them.
• Schools show steady API score improvements.
• More schools are being recognized as distinguished by the state.
• A balanced budget has been achieved for nine years.
• Cuts were made to programs to balance the budget during the state's three-year financial crisis--but I voted immediately to restore music, librarians, custodians and essential school staff when the state crisis abated and more local resources were available.
• School facilities have improved significantly having invested more than $200M since 2003.
• New technology centers have been created at all middle and high schools.
• Local facility bond taxes have been leveraged to add $100M in state funds toward upgrading our schools.
• Long-term agreements with employee bargaining units have been maintained and a priority continues to be competitive employee compensation to attract and keep the very best in teachers and staff.

I believe that my focus on rigor, reform, responsibility and results will lead to even greater achievements in the years ahead. As a parent of four children who have gone through this school system, and as a 41-year veteran teacher and administrator in Mt. Diablo schools, I have a proven record for providing a first-rate education to all students. I also have the leadership skills necessary to stay the course to ensure that continuous improvement leads to increased student success.

Make sure the candidate you support has what it takes to help this school system implement a more comprehensive program of change focused on student success. Help me continue to use my experience and leadership qualities to keep students at the center of all decisions--and Mt. Diablo School District on a steady rise. Vote for Dick Allen on November 7th.
