Democrat Leland Y. Yee, PhD, is an educator, child psychologist, husband and father of four who has dedicated his career to strengthening our schools and colleges, protecting our families, and working creatively to improve the quality of life in our communities.

HELPING FAMILIES RAISE HEALTHY KIDS -

As a PhD in child psychology, a former teacher and member of the San Francisco Board of Education, Leland Yee has spent his professional career focused on kids and schools. In Sacramento, has earned a 100% rating from the Children's Advocacy Institute and been instrumental in passing key education reforms and improvements.

And while a good education is essential to our kids' wellbeing and future success, Leland Yee knows that children need more than good schools to help them grow. That's why Yee has worked to expand access to mental health services for kids, strengthened laws to keep tobacco out of the hands of minors, banned the sale of ultra-violent videogames to children, and fought to protect children exploited by sex traffickers.

FIGHTING FOR PATIENTS AND PROVIDERS -

Endorsed by the California Nurses Association for his strong commitment to affordable, quality health care for all Californians, Leland Yee is a health care professional who has worked tirelessly his entire adult life to improve health care.

As a San Francisco Supervisor, Leland Yee created the city's first school-based health centers, established a parent support line for parents to consult with counselors about their children's behavior, and won funding for non-profit community health centers like the Women's Community Clinic.

Since he was elected to the State Assembly, Yee has been recognized as a statewide leader on health issues: he was named the "Legislator of the Year" by the California Psychiatric Association, and was awarded the "Rose Jenkins Legislative Advocate of the Year" by the California Mental Health Directors Association.

STANDING UP FOR THOSE WITHOUT A VOICE -

While the right-wing conservative assault on civil rights and liberties continues, Leland Yee has been there time and time again to stand up for underrepresented communities and those without a voice.

His long track record on civil rights includes opposition to Propositions 54 and 209 which attacked fundamental programs that provide equal access to housing, education and jobs; support for bi-lingual education; opposition to anti-immigrant initiatives such as Proposition 187; support for same-sex marriage and equal rights for domestic partners; support for disabled persons and fair access to government services for individuals who do not speak English.

Leland is proud to be supported in his campaign for State Senate by California's most respected civil rights leaders including Dolores Huerta, State Senator Carole Migden, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.

FIGHTING FOR A CLEANER CALIFORNIA -

As gas, heating, and electricity prices reach all-time highs, and as the effects of greenhouse gasses on our natural environment continue to reveal themselves, California needs advocates ready to lead the state to a new energy future and to fight back to protect the state's precious natural resources. Assemblyman Leland Yee has worked tirelessly to create options for cleaner energy resources, strengthen laws holding polluters accountable for their effects on the environment, and to preserve California's unique ecosystem.

For his efforts, Yee has been recognized as an environmental leader by the State's major advocacy organizations: Yee received a 100% rating from the Sierra Club for the 2004-2005 Session; Yee was named 2004 "Coastal Steward" by Vote the Coast a grassroots organization committed to the protection of California coastal and ocean resources; and Yee was awarded a score of 100% from the League of Conservation Voters.
