For over twelve years, Rick Ramirez has dedicated himself to serving his community. Throughout his public service career, Rick Ramirez has consistently made education, public safety, and the quality of life of local residents of his community a top priority.

Rick's experience in law enforcement gives him a unique insight to the ways that State, County, and Local Governments work together to bring important public safety and youth crime deterrent programs to a community. Rick began his career in community service as a peace officer with the City of Norwalk's Office of Public Safety. A few years later, he was promoted to the Orange County Marshal's Department. Currently, Rick works as both a Supervisor and Trainer with the Santa Ana Police Department Jail Bureau and serves as a Peace Officer with the City of Long Beach's Park Ranger Program. Rick is also a credentialed educator teaching our youth at the high school level.

As a Councilmember in the City of Norwalk, Rick Ramirez has proven that a strong leader can bring people together to get things done in his community. Rick represents over 104,000 residents and understands that elected officials must work to ensure the quality of life of every single community member. Since Rick joined the City Council in 2003, he has worked to bring programs that improve quality of life, increase public safety and education, and promote the economic stability of the City.

His accomplishments include:

Improved Public Safety and Crime Deterrent Programs

  • Strengthening Community Based Policing to Reduce Gang and Youth Violence
  • Implemented Nursing Home Watch to Protect Seniors
  • Commissioned "Safe Routes to Schools" Study to Ensure Children's Safety

Expanded Youth and Community Education Opportunities

  • Supported Increased Youth Programs Including Employment and Volunteer Services.
  • Hosted a Community Forum with Local School Districts and Community Leaders to Discuss Ways for Everyone to Work Together to Improve Our Schools.

Increased Community Health and Environmental Programs

  • Furthered the Redevelopment and Clean Up of a Military Fuel Storage Site for Use as Commercial and Recreational Facilities
  • Improved the City's Recycling Programs to Decrease Landfill Usage
  • Supported Annual Health Fair to Bring Free Health Screenings, Immunizations, and Fitness Education to Norwalk Residents
  • Strengthened the city's Children's Dental Program that provides low-cost dental care to school children, grades K through 12.

Advanced the Local Economy for Residents and Small Businesses

  • Developed Housing Assistance Programs to Assist First-Time Home Owners
  • Implemented Policy to Fast-Track the City's Regulatory System to Expand Local Business Opportunities
  • Funded Public Transportation to Make Norwalk's One of the Most Successful and Responsible in the Region.

In addition to serving on the council, Rick is a board member on the Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Investment Board where he has worked to ensure that residents have access to quality work skills education. He is also in his second term as Chair of the City's Housing Authority, which works to solve housing issues for low-income families, seniors, and youth.

Rick Ramirez was born in the City of Artesia and attended elementary, Jr. High and High School in the ABC Unified School District. Rick grew up in Norwalk where he attended Rio Hondo Community College including Cerritos Community College where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree. He earned a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and completed graduate course work in Public Administration at the University of La Verne.

Rick and his wife, Gina, are homeowners in Norwalk and have three sons, Ryan, Rene and Riley.
