Lou Papan Former Assemblyman

Leadership We Need. Experience You Can Trust.

My Record: Education + B.A. in Economics from Syracuse University; F.B.I. Academy; Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Law Enforcement + Special Agent, F.B.I., San Francisco and Chicago.

Military + Veteran of WW II (Sgt., U.S. Army) and Korea (2nd Lt. USAF).

Family + Married 42 years to late wife Irene, three children: John, Gina and Diane.

Business + Broker, Papan Real Estate and Insurance, San Francisco, CA; Co-founder, Peninsula Bank of Commerce.

Legislative + Assemblyman, 19th District, 1972-86 and 1996-2002; Chaired Assembly Rules Committee from 1976-86, longest tenure in California history; Dean of the Assembly.

Legislative Accomplishments + Wrote laws improving education for disabled children and requiring reporting of child and elder abuse; passed some of the first legislation enabling e-commerce and encouraging housing development along transit corridors; increased accountability by placing legislative records under California's Open Records Act; oversaw restoration of historic State Capitol Building on time and on budget. Authored legislation improving Worker's Compensation benefits for public safety employees and supported legislation addressing the nursing shortage.

For 20 years, representing the 19th Assembly District, I tirelessly championed the causes of children, workers and families.

But there is much more to be done. Our education system is a mess; we are facing a housing crisis of epic proportion and our infrastructure, most notably with respect to transportation, needs significant repair and upgrading.

These problems will not solve themselves. They require strong, experienced leadership. That is what I offer.

Lou Papan + Democrat for State Senate.
