Scott Packard understands the demands that public service places on an individual and a family. Scott also knows the satisfaction and fulfillment that come from meeting those demands with dedication and honor. He experienced it growing up as the son of Ron Packard, who served on the Carlsbad School Board, on the Planning Commission, on the City Council, as Mayor, and finally as U.S. Congressman during critical years in North County's growth and development. And Scott has himself experienced these demands and dedication first-hand during his own decade of public service, including his election to the Vista City Council, an appointment as Vista Mayor Pro Tem, membership on the Vista Parks and Recreation Commission, and his participation on numerous other committees and commissions.

With a vision of the future and the courage to make ambitious decisions, Scott was involved in developing the Vista City Plan that has revitalized the area and brought millions of dollars in revenue to the city. He was instrumental in bringing The Wave Water Park to North County. He understood and advocated for critical improvements in the infrastructure along the 78 Corridor. And to accomplish his goals, he willingly and effectively worked with those of opposing viewpoints to find solutions that were best for the community.

"I think I've been educated and prepared my whole life through my father's example. For him and our family, public service truly was about service. It wasn't always easy, but I could always see that it was worth it. I could see the joy it brought him, and more importantly, I could see all the good that he was able to do. And now, I believe it is my time to accept the challenge to serve, to shoulder the responsibility of making this great community an even better place, to enhance the quality of life--for us and for our posterity. My father always served with integrity and with the best interests of his constituents in mind. I can think of nothing I would rather do than follow in his footsteps and continue to serve this community which has given me so much."

Scott is a leader with valuable experience in the business and political realm. His background in all aspects of general contracting, business ownership, public service, community service, and church service provide a broad foundation of knowledge and experience from which to draw as he tackles the tough problems that face today's leaders. Even so, Scott cites the example of his father as being perhaps the single most important aspect in preparing and qualifying him for the work of the Assembly.

After his service in Vista, Scott and his family made a temporary, business-related move to the greater Las Vegas area where Scott continued to volunteer and participate in local community events. Wherever Scott has lived, he has served. And now he is ready to bring his dedication, his commitment, and his integrity to serve the people of the 74th Assembly District.

Scott and his bride of 25 years, Yvette, are the proud parents of five beautiful children and a darling one-year-old granddaughter. They are active in the LDS religion, where Scott has served in numerous leadership positions. As a young man, Scott earned his Eagle Scout Award, and later went on to fulfill an LDS mission, serving in both Peru and Texas, where he spoke fluent Spanish. On his mission, he also had the invaluable opportunity to learn and appreciate the unique qualities of the people he served. These days, Scott enjoys surfing, fishing, and golfing, and he especially looks forward to time with his family.
