Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Irene "Charlie" LaChance

Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 71; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate

First and foremost I am a mother, grand mother and working woman.
I believe that every American has the right to health care, affordable housing , an education and equality.
The best way to ensure equality is through education. It is essential to support our teachers and thier staff. With more schools, smaller class size and more teachers we will have less inmates in the penal system.
Our Health Care system needs to be repaired. It is a shame that in the most wealthy country in the world we have chidren without health care. Our seniors often choose between buying food or paying for medication. It is time to change this injustice.
Women's health is under attack. I will do everything I can to prevent a womens right to choose and protect her own body from being taken away.I do not want to see our young women put their lives at risk, simply because there is no health care available.
A living wage is necessary to help our working families live the Amerian dream. California needs to lead the country in setting the standard for working Americans. A Workers right to organize should be protected with stronger laws that can be inforced. Without labor unions, there would be no 8 hour day , child labor laws or safe working conditions. There would be no middle America , only corporate America.
Our state is blessed with diversity. Immigration reform is needed. It is time to move forward and give those hard working essential workers a pathway to citizenship. The United States has prided itself in leading the way to democracy. It is time we allow those that put food on our tables, take care of our children and elderly, clean our homes and offices ,build our homes and sew our clothes, the opportunity to participate in that democracy.

It is time to take America back. Back to a time when we asked not what our country could do for us, but what we could do for our country. A time when we reached out to our neighbor. A time when once we ' got ours' we helped someone else 'get theirs'. A time when we welcomed those in need. A time when America was proud!
