Sample Ballot Statement

By Don Glavich

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 54; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
This is the same statement which appears in the Los Angeles County Sample Ballot (Page 15) that was mailed to every Democratic voter.
As your assemblyman, my priorities will be education and smart growth of our ports.

Our schools need our help. I'll work to improve teacher retention, pay and benefits and to reduce the size of our classrooms. And I support efforts to provide preschool for all children.

Our ports are expanding. My focus will be to insure expansion is done with our communities in mind, because our ports do not exist solely to make money for big business. I'll fight to make sure the port occupants pay their share for what we need, so that taxpayers aren't burdened with the cost. Our needs include anti-pollution and port security technology, as well as significant infrastructure development.

As a worker on the waterfront, I understand what's at stake. Many of my family and friends are longshoremen. I promise never to take money from the special interests that conduct business in our ports. I am proud to run a clean-money campaign and will pursue campaign-finance reform as your elected official.

I'll protect the rights of our workers. And it will be my mission to bring more jobs into our area.

I'll work to restore fiscal responsibility, because raising taxes is not an option I'm willing to support.

I am a Juris Doctorate candidate at Western State University College of Law and hold a bachelor's degree in political science from CSU Dominguez Hills. I am a former journalist.

I am deeply honored to have your support and trust.
